Cornwall Works with Families

What’s it all about?

CWF is a programme that is about helping workless adults in families who need a lot of support to overcome barriers to work - whether these barriers relate to work, family or social issues.

 
What do you mean by a ‘workless family’?

We understand that families are diverse and no one family unit is the same.  This project works with people who are part of a family where no one is working and someone is getting a benefit from Jobcentre Plus. Easy.  This might be mum, dad, son, daughter or even grandma!

What help and support is available?

Well it’s not all about the money! However Cornwall Works with Families can provide up to 12 months support for individuals to gain the skills, self confidence and enthusiasm they need to help smooth the path back into work. This may also include overcoming barriers such as travel, child care, health, drugs or alcohol issues, housing problems and family things that might be getting in the way.

Our co-ordinators will prepare a tailor made programme for the family member - we understand that for some people adapting to new things may take a while and for others not so long - which is why our support is planned around the individual. It’s not the same for everyone!

Basically - no matter what struggles a family is having or what is holding them back - we can make it easier. We will help families and  family members to think about work and get back into it.

Then what happens?

We don’t just switch off support when  you  find work - our on-going programme will continue to provide help and advice for  the  first six months in work. We understand that getting back to work raises another raft of challenges and we will provide assistance through this time of transition. No one will be on their own! 

 

Who delivers 'Cornwall Works with Families’?

Cornwall Works with Families is a group of local organisations based in the county - all experts in helping people to find their way through difficult times and in particular finding work or training to help gain employment

The project is part of the Department for Work and Pension’s European Social Fund Convergence Programme and will co-ordinate agencies to work hard on family based delivery.
